Split Items for Region and Format Specific Contracts

Sometimes, you need to account transactions differently based on which territory they occurred in, or by different formats. In IC, this is best done by assigning contracts at the Item level.

By default, IC creates Items for each unique set of metadata, per importer, regardless of their region or format. If you need to regularly group transactions according to region and/or format so that you can account them individually, you'll need to split those Items.

Use the following steps to split items by territory or format:

  1. Set up territories and format groups

Territories and format groups are groupings of regions and formats that you can manage via the item list page. Set them up by navigating to Royalties  Items, and clicking their respective tabs in the nav

  2. Split individual items manually...

If you only have a handful of region and format specific contracts, you can split items by territory and format group manually. To do so, use the "Split Item" action on an item detail page or in the catalog manager, or use the "Bulk Split" action on the item list page. Splitting will:

    • Create new items with the appropriate territory and format group for any transactions whose regions and formats match.
    • Assign matching transactions to new items.
    • Delete any items being split if no transactions remain.
    • Guarantee that new transactions will automatically be assigned to the appropriate item

... Or, Split Items Automatically by Importer

If the majority of your catalog uses region or format specific contracts, you should set up item splitting at the importer level

To do so, update the settings of relevant importers (Data Imports → Importers → Settings) and use the territories and format groups you created in the previous step. Future imports will now use those territories and format groups when creating items and assigning transactions.

  3. Splitting an Item in the Catalog Manager
  4. Set up item-level contracts

Once you've created the items you need, create the region and/or format specific contracts, and assign them to the relevant items. You can also use the "Bulk Update" function on the item list page if you have lots of items that need assigning. There are territory and format group filters available on that page to make it easier for you to find the relevant items.
