Shopify
Shopify charges processing fees for each transaction, and these fees are variable dependent upon the Shopify plan you are subscribed to, in addition to the payment processor you are using. By default, our importer assesses the standard 2.9% of a purchase + 30ยข flat transaction fee upon Shopify data at import - however - if your Shopify transactions are subject to different fees, your Payment Processor flat fee + percentage fee must be set manually in your Shopify Importer Settings prior to importing data. More details regarding this process can be found here in our Knowledge Base.
How to get the data
- Log in to Shopify
- Select the desired Shopify store and account
- From the left side menu, click "Orders" then "Export"
- Select "Orders By Date" and choose the desired date range
- Click "Export Orders"
- A CSV should be sent to your account's email inbox within a few minutes depending on the size of the data file
Please note: Due to the formatting of Shopify data, our system accepts the raw orders report as it is retrieved from Shopify, and is unable to ingest edited Shopify reporting. If you are only accounting for certain orders, those transactions can also be brought into the system one at a time or in bulk via our Additionals doc.
Importing into IC:
- In IC, navigate to Royalties -> Data Imports.
- Select the Shopify importer from the dropdown menu
- Choose the desired file and click "Import"
**Important to note**: Shopify does not structure their sales data around Artist / Release / Track, i.e. the document does not have individual cells for each category. All descriptive information regarding the item of sale is included in a single cell in the .csv doc, titled "Lineitem name" (see image below). Because of this, Shopify data does not create Artist, Release and Track info in IC's system as other more structured data sources would.
As a result, Shopify is not the importer you want to start with when importing data to IC. When getting started, preferred sources to import first include Bandcamp, Redeye, InGrooves, or Tunecore. Those distribution companies structure their data by having separate columns for Artist/Release/Track which are easier for the IC importer to read.
How we process Shopify data
Shopify does not separate out their per-transaction fees (0.30 (flat fee) + (0.029 (percentage)) per transaction line within the data, so we do some math to calculate and subtract them when the data is imported into IC, accounting for discounts, taxes, and shipping.
Processing Shopify refunds
Only Shopify orders with a Financial Status of "paid" are imported into IC. We recommend waiting a month before importing Shopify monthly reports to ensure that all orders that need to be refunded have already been refunded and are reflected as such in the data.
